A trip to Snettisham on Saturday, to witness the largest flock of birds in the UK being forced into land by the tide. The tide wasn't as high as expected, and so they weren't pushed close, which may have helped me being stuck at 200mm minimum, but still amazing to see and hear. The sound of 90000+ pigeon sized birds taking to the air and murmurating is incredible. The birds are mainly Knot and Oystercatchers (the bigger of the birds here). Hoping to go back next month for the last chance to see this as this only happens when there is a high spring tide.

That must have been pretty amazing to see! Thanks for sharing.

Incredible shots Kev. It must have been amazing to witness. Clearly I have to put Snettisham on my list of places to visit!

Thanks Tim. Absolutely worth it, but you need to know the times of the highest tides. Even this tide at 6.8m wasn't high enough to force them close or into the pits behind after.
Here's a phone cam video I shot. Listen to the wing sound, ignore my babble!

Really nice to see the video too, that's definitely quite the spectacle to witness! You'll have to flip the R4 into video mode next time :)

I tried as it goes, but I need to look at settings. I was at 1/50th sec and couldn't change it. Never used it before.

Thanks for sharing the video. Wonderful to see.

If you couldn't change the shutter speed when in movie mode (on the dial) you might just need to jump into the menu and cam settings 2 where you'll find "exposure mode". It might be set to auto or aperture priority so just change it to manual. If you have it set to 4k and 25fps then you'll want the shutter speed at 1/50th sec anyway, as the rule of thumb is you want your shutter speed to be approximately double the number of frames per second that you are recording. Of course you could also play around with the S&Q mode as well :)

Cheers Jon and Tim. Tim, I'll give it a look over this week.

Great set of a wonderful spectacle Kev
