Birds Birds Non-BIF Thread - Post Your Shots Here

First outing with the Sony A350. Really bad light, grey overcast and snow showers all day, but I wanted to get it out. Not super thrilled with performance at ISO 800, the Maxxum 5D is better in that regard. Colors though are pure CCD. Get this thing in the right light and it'll really shine.

Evidently the Carolina Wren from the other day is a pair.

Red Breasted Nuthatch. Only the second time I've seen this one.

Finally caught the Bluejay. He usually grabs a peanut and goes without stopping.

While on our way home today we had to stop to add air to a tire. As I was getting back in the car I noticed several Cedar Waxwings in a couple of trees next to the pump. I had my camera in the back of the car so I grabbed it and took several shots.

I dunno' if this is in flight or not. Looks like almost maybe, but mostly not.

Just received the verdict from the forum referee, confirming that the left thumb is definitely making contact there. They're saying that the resolution of the A Mount lens made the decision a hard one but thankfully their professionalism got the result in the end... 🫡

Not the lens, the camera. This was a very early 14MP sensor, one of the first. In reading reviews they refer to the 'massive' number of pixels, and how the smaller pixels don't handle noise as well as the lower resolution cameras. Noise was an issue back then, and as I learned ISO 800 is a problem. NR results in smearing, which is a trait of NR on any camera, it's just that noise is better controlled these days to start with.

Sony added a high-level NR to this camera in RAW at ISO 1600 and 3200, then again in jpeg if that's what you're shooting. The result is oversmoothed and smudgy images. I'll want to keep that in mind. A faster lens would've helped, light was bad yesterday. Probably should've used the 80-200/2.8 so I could pull the ISO down to 200 or even 100, it would've saved me 2-1/3 stops of ISO. Even the 80-200 and 1.4 TC would've saved a stop and a third.

This is about learning the gear you're using instead of throwing money at it. It's an excellent opportunity and quite a lot of fun to experience the challenge of older tech and how to overcome the limitations. A pleasant diversion from the norm during a time of year when there's little to keep my interest.

I really need to stop revving you up mate, it works too well!

I honestly can't really tell the difference between everyone's images on my phone screen, nor do I scrutinise any way...

Fascinating how he balances with his tale.

Hey, Gary,
That must be an amazing park.

You're not revving me up, I'm just pointing out the problems with the camera. This is a learning experience, I've never used one of these before. I'd hope others could learn something at the same time, even if it's only the basics of the exposure triangle.

Wow! Did this happen in your garden? Beautyful male in the second one! Great capture!
Yep back garden in last house. Got this at existing house a few weeks ago. Poor Yellowhammer. Was about 10 yards from the back window.

Jeez Gary, I had to get up out of my chair, go into the other room and dig it out of the bag!

Focus area options are Wide, Spot, and Local.

I don't understand the need for local. I am so use to half-press/recompose, messing with the selector on the back is just a waste of time.

Chic fight with female blackbirds and a tit slightly out of focusplane... Still on the remote-setup..

Black Swan - I wasn't sure if it was going to attack me... He was showing the hen where all the good grass seeds were located.
