I guess my intro starts back in the mid to late ’80s when I got my first “real” camera--a Canon T70. People thought I was crazy backpacking in the Rockies with that much camera gear. Loved the vibrant colors of Fuji film over the more subdued tones of Kodak. Muddled around with some early digital cameras that were certainly pioneering, but absolute crap images. Eventually found my way into the wonderful world of digital SLRs with a Nikon D90. As a professional pilot, I dragged that beast literally around the world with me. But with all the charts and clothes required for aviating Internationally, I wanted something a bit more portable for camera gear. Enter the Nikon 1 V2. I ditched the neck strap and discovered the joys of street photography walking around all day with camera in hand tethered by a wrist strap. I loved the size and weight of the camera and lenses, but hated the crop factor and lack of lenses and support from Nikon. And, of course, now it’s discontinued.

And that brings me to Sony. I’ve been eyeing the a6x00 cameras for I don’t know how long. When the a6600 came out with the same Z battery as the full frame cameras (plus-like the others in the a6x00 line-the ability to use full frame glass on the APS-C body) I thought I’d found my new traveling companion with accessories to move to a full frame body if I ever decided make the jump. My propensity for over analyzing paid dividends this time because before I actually managed to plunk down the coin to purchase the 6600, along comes the A7C.

And there it is, under the tree, wrapped in snowflake paper with a green bow on top. Teasing. What I hope will be a pleasing combination of a full frame sensor in a walk-around-all-day compact body. The kit 28-60 lens is wrapped-up with it, but sitting on my desk is the Zeiss 55mm f/1.8. Something to look forward to as we quarantine during this COVID Christmas season. 😷

In both aviation and photography, the learning never stops. Happy to have found this group. Looking forward to increasing my knowledge, and hopefully I can manage to contribute in some small way.
