Your Photo of the Week

Week 10/52: Mackerel in Coconut Sauce. I took this picture to use in the thumbnail for my next youtube video. I cheated a bit and used Photoshop to mask the dish while replacing the black granite countertop with a solid black layer (this will help me later in making that thumbnail as I said).
Looks tasty! Will definitely have to watch your next video now.

A day late for week 9, but yesterday was kind of busy.

Meet Bear. We completed our first Pilots N Paws mission yesterday taking Bear from Frankfort, Kentucky, to Clarksburg, West Virginia, where another gentleman met us to take Bear onto his final destination in Pennsylvania. Bear has had a pretty rough life so far, but it sounds like he’s going to be well cared for now.
I can certainly see why he's called bear! Great job. Glad to hear that he will be cared for now, every dog deserves a nice home.

Week 7. A female blackbird munching on some ivy berries.

"Blackbirds" look to be a different species on your side of the pond, interesting. Ours are more like this (not my image):

Male blackbirds over here look very similar to this, so basically black :) The female ones despite sharing the same name are actually brown with spots and streaks on their breasts, I'm not sure if this is the case over on your side of the pond?

Week 11. By no means a fantastic shot, but this Little Bunting is a super rare visitor to the UK, only 60-70 birds in a year, and this is only the 10th ever to be seen in my county and the first ever at our local reserve, Hard to get shots of in that undergrowth as his colours blend so well.

I just uploaded that video!
The action bits were filmed with a gopro, but the rest is still my a6400 with a combination of the Sony 35mm and 18-135mm lenses

I'm back! Picking up where I left off, with Week 8:

Great video work Chris and editing! I've never caught and eaten a fish before, I should probably put it down on my to-do list!

Week 8. A mute swan on a local lake. I heard there were otters there but if there was they weren't coming out to play.

Week 11/52 running a week behind as usual.
Tony the two-tailed iguana (you may recognize him from Week 4) made a guest appearance outside my home office window again, but this time, he tried to hide in the Gardenia bush...

Week 9. A pair of peregrines have turned up on my local hills. This was shot from around 100m away and heavily cropped. I waited for over an hour with my finger on the shutter for this one to leave its perch.

I applaud your patience and persistence. 👏 👏 👏

Week 13. Something not wildlife for a change, as I've not been out and the moon was spectacularly clear on Saturday.

Aaand this is why I don't bother to take moon photos anymore: if all I have is 135mm on the long end of my kit lens, its just not enough to get a clear shot compared to this beautiful specimen. Nice one Kev!

Cheers, yes, you do need that zoom for sure. It's cropped in as well, but the detail is amazing when it's this clear. All of those striations and impact marks are startling.

Week 12/52: Banana Bread, a comfort food many of us learned how to make during lockdown 😅

Week 10. I spent a few hours watching the peregrines again last week. I've not got a shot that I really like yet but it's still very enjoyable just watching them. This was a heavy crop and cleaned up in DeNoise.

Week 11. I spent some time in a kingfisher hide last week that has a diving setup. The light wasn't brilliant for dive shots as you need a pretty fast shutter speed, but I was happy with this shot. I used the Sony RMT-P1BT remote to trigger the shutter. I don't think any other remote would work fast enough as they dive off the perch in a fraction of a second. It's also one of the few times that 20fps on the a9 is actually beneficial.
