  1. Yes
I like seeing photographers at work, any work, but particularly photographing nature. Whether it's the chance snap or the contemplated, carefully thought through and orchestrated manipulation of light. Do we see what they see? Serious, revealing, interesting or just amusing, if you have any examples, feel free to contribute to this thread.

Both the pond by the Princess of Wales and Greenwich Park are my favourite local hunting grounds. It's great seeing other photographers out there capturing the moment.

Most of my people (photographer) shots are with my Nikon D850, but here are two recent shots taken on my Sony. First is from December at Sweetwater Wetlands (Tucson, USA) and I think he is using the same lens I am (FE 200-600). Second is from January (this month) at Sabino Canyon (Tucson, USA) after heavy rains caused the stream to flow over the first bridge. Like most people, this woman is using a cell phone as her camera.

Great shots, that road looks a little wet! Also, what type of gloves are you wearing? I'm in the market for photographers gloves as it's been really cold here lately, about -5C at its coldest!

I was not wearing any gloves when I took this; the guy I took the photo of was wearing gloves. I don't know him so I have no idea what kind of gloves he has. When I do wear gloves they are standard stretch material that I got at a mountaineering store (Rab Powerstretch, though there are many similar brands). Camera bag manufacturer Lowepro makes photographer gloves, but I don't know if they are any different or better than regular gloves like the ones I have.

Thanks Fred. I've just ordered a pair of gloves where the trigger finger and thumb ends can be hinged off so you can use your fingers. These are by Vallerret, and the glove is 'Markhof Pro V3 Photography Glove'. They are expensive (Euro100 with shipping), hopefully they are good! Everything to do with photography is expensive!

That's the truth! I will be interested to hear what you think of the gloves once you start using them.

I just looked them up on B&H, which offers a lot more gloves than I would have thought. The ones you ordered seem to be thicker/warmer than the generic stretch gloves I use. They also have another brand with same design called Freehand.

I don't know about over there, but over here, hunting apparel is a lot less expensive than photography apparel. Hunting blinds are cheaper than photography 'hides', etc. I have a pair of fleece gloves made for extreme cold that flip up to expose your finger, they cost about $25.

I used to be a volunteer firefighter. We used to say you can buy an axe at the hardware store for $40, but if you paint it red and put 'Fire Department' on it, they'll charge $250.

Photographers at work I saw today.

Ignoring the extraneous element of the baby, we have a blindfolded cat on a leash, and in the first shot the adult human is trying to take a photo of the cat with her phone.

For bonus points, the blindfold has a sunset scene on it?!?

I think Huh? Is a perfectly rationale response…

The lady with the red top in the gondola is taking a photograph of the couple standing. They are at the highest point on the London Eye. I was way over on the other side of the river in Parliament Square.

I couldn't see what this photographer was shooting. Is that a 100-400 GM?

<silly> I think he's shooting water birds </silly>

I think that would have to be the 100-400 because none of the other white lenses extend that far? Or is there another? Oh, unless (shock!) it's not a Sony - might that be the Canon RF 70-200 - that extends, doesn't it?

Had a nice chat with these fellows. Those are Nikon 800 mm lenses.

I took this one as an exercise with the 2x teleconverter.

Here's what he was shooting.

Handheld.
According to the manual focus distance indicator, this was about 237 meters away.
This is a crazy 250% crop.
I wonder how his shots turned out.

In case you're wondering - here's the 250% crop in Capture One.

Some folks work harder to get their shots than others (well, they work harder than I do).

The photographer. (I would have cropped out the background at the top of the photo - except that it's part of a series).

Gosh - were they using cameras? They must have been really well camouflaged - couldn’t see them at all!

The only photo I have of me in action, taken by a friend a few years ago.
As for the question about being curious about what people are photographing. Yes, often, though more often, especially with phone people, it's preceeded by "what the hell are they..."

My first wedding photograph, well a photograph of a photographer taking a wedding photograph. I saw them while photopgrahing in the wildflower meadow at the end of my road. Not sure which I prefer?
