Here's Thom Hogan's nuanced review of the R IV, particularly in relation to the R III and his Nikons.


In summary, not everyone will use or benefit from the extra pixels and they come at a cost. It's a more specialised camera than the R III and it benefits some genres and types of use and not others. It has limitations that only appear in the footnotes of Sony's guff about it.
 
The extra resolution means that better glass and better technique are needed; otherwise you just capture lens weaknesses, soft focus, heat haze, and camera and subject movement more readily.
