I have lived on this small lake for many years and this is the first time I've seen a Wood Duck swimming around in our waters....so cool! I hope that he or she becomes a permanent resident! In case anyone is wondering why the water looks like he's swimming in a vat of caramel sauce, it is because due to several recent storms the silt at th bottom of this manmade stormwater retention pond (yeah, not really a lake) was stirred up. I am hoping that this guy or gal hangs around so that I do more shots on a day when the surrounding scenery, including the water, is more flattering!

Nice duck, weird water. Great shot!

Nice. Lovely birds.

Thanks, guys! Yes, it was so annoying to see this beautiful bird and have the water look so weird and of course the water is distracting. Ideally this guy or gal will stick around and we'll eventually have a nice day with blue skies and sunshine and pretty water so that it will really display the elegant wood duck to the max. Definitely not going to be today, though -- overcast and dreary, kind of hazy.
