Nice, so if I wanted to be able to get this much detail from the sidelines, the 100-400 is the right lens eh? are these images cropped in?
I'll try to remember that. I have a niece that plays soccer and I remember last time I tried to take photos with the kit lens, I was pretty disappointed.

Yes Chris cropped in I find that the 100-400 gives me more leeway rather than the longer lens also had the 70-200mm with me and did not use it depends on where the action is on the field
 
For a green grass pitch, they seem really muddy - did you not photograph a monster mud wallow at one end of the pitch? ;)

They clearly take the game seriously, and you captured their efforts well.
