Sony hasn’t had a GM Macro lens before. The two main macros to this point have been G lenses: the classic 90mm f/2.8 Macro, and the recent 70-200mm f/4 G II, with its “secret identity” as a 140-400mm f/8 1:1 Macro lens

Do you want a GM macro? What focal length would you want it to be? Suggestion is 100mm, but would you like longer focal length for more working distance? The catch with a longer focal length would be a possibly more limited aperture?

I doubt it would happen, but could you imagine an f/2 macro?

I wonder if the reason for creating a GM Macro is to create a macro lens able to support the capture of focus brackets at ludicrous speed? Maybe a bracket of 100 frames in a second?

What no love for the 50mm macro?

Do you want a GM macro?
It depends on what the spec set is like and what that will cost. What I think would be nearly irresistible would be a lens designed with a focus limiter of say 1-2m with very fast focusing motors. This combined with the new AI focusing could make it incredible for insect in-flight shots.

I confess to never having paid much attention to the 50mm Macro. For some reason I thought it wasn’t a 1:1 macro, but I may have mixed it up with another brand.

I fully expect any GM Macro to come with super-fast focus motors. I like the idea of a focus limiter for macro distance - I have had the “fun” of waiting for a macro lens to travel all the way to infinity (and beyond?) and back.
