Yesterday I went into a local woodland yesterday to experiment with my new Sony 10mm macro lens that I got a couple of days ago.

At first, my attention was on a decaying leaf, its surface breaking down into delicate textures and tones. Then, out of the shadows, a Common Shiny Woodlouse appeared, quietly crossing the woodland floor.

I followed its slow progress through the understory, weaving between fallen leaves and fragments of the forest’s debris. Under the low ambient light, I relied on auto ISO to hold a reasonable shutter speed, trying to keep pace with its steady movement.

The moment that stayed with me was when it reached the very edge of a leaf and paused, antennae feeling forward for the next foothold. Just a tiny creature on a vast forest floor, continuing its journey one careful step at a time.
