I went to Chester Zoo yesterday. It is not designed with photographers in mind - many animals are behind glass which produces annoying reflections, and other animals are obscured , badly lit, or in unnatural locations.

Unfortunately Zoo’s have become a no go area for me..I visited Toronto Zoo about 15 years ago and came away feeling sad… I personally feel they’ve crossed the line from conservation to entertainment…
Good set of pictures though…

Nice shots. A great many older zoos are not set up for photographers. and some don't even like them (our main one in Norfolk hates us!) Go to Yorkshire Wildlife Park. They know what they are doing. It's by far our favourite zoo, and is a revelation for photography.

I haven't been there but I might pay it a visit. It is a pity that they are limited mainly to large mammals, whereas Chester has a wider range of species. Thanks for the comment!

They do have a lot of smaller animals too, and are expanding all of the time. The Polar Bears are worth the entry alone :D
