First attempts at focus stacking

I have just started to take an interest in close-up shots. These are my first two attempts at focus stacking with Helicon software. I am yet to build a macro cage and for these shots I used a light tent that has been sitting around for a while.

What f-stop did you use? For the second photo maximum aperture would have been best in order to throw the background as far out of focus as possible.

I used f11, as I wanted to keep the lens pretty much near its sweet spot. I will try a larger aperture and see whether I like it - it is a learning curve for me.
