Here's a shot showing the groynes protruding into the water at my favourite beach about six weeks ago.

On a good day last year, when the tide is lower but not fully out, I saw nine of them all lined up like this. This was before I got a camera. If I can catch a shot like that this year, I'll entitle the image The Supremes.

I've seen groynes before, but I've not seen a wooden one before - the ones where I grew up were constructed from rocks and concrete.

There are groynes constructed with rock in a different part of the beach, but no concrete. But the wildlife prefers the wooden ones.

Nine - all in agreement. This is the most I've gotten all in a row like this. I was disappointed that their colours are not as vivid as they were in some of the shots above, taken six weeks ago.
Edit - I have replaced the original image. I took down the exposure on the Great Blue Herons a bit. Now, they look more like the pictures above.
