Basically I'm back to being a beginner. I last used a camera in other than auto mode 30 some years ago. I bought the a6400 and will be taking the "A Year With My Camera" course to build my familiarity with it and to get out of the 'leave it in auto' mindset.

Auto is so misunderstood, in most situations its fine and a hell of a lot quicker to catch the 'throw your camera at it' shot. I find I now spend an age prepping my camera for the days shooting. The memory functions speed that process up a bit though.

It is helpful to learn how to use manual mode but like Drewid has said above the auto modes can be very useful to catch some quick shots that you might otherwise miss by the time you have dialled in the settings manually. Thanks for joining up here! :)
