Let me give you an example of video encoding testing that I did a couple years ago on Mac and PC.  Both had very similar processors in them (i7's to be exact) both had 16GB of Ram both had SSD's.  MacOS vs Windows 7. I ripped a DVD disk that I owned to digitize it to my media server.  Using the same software on each machine (Mac specific version and Windows Specific version) the Mac ripped and encoded the move in ~30 minutes and the Windows laptop was over 3 hours.
