Went out yesterday to our Pygmy Owl spot. Upon arriving we spotted several photographers surrounding a Pygmy Owl in the forest just off the road. We decided not to go up the hill as there was already about 5 people there. Got out my photo gear and the owl dove down and was obviously onto a prey item. Then it flew to a branch just off the road. I managed to get 4 shots as it left the perch not to be seen for the rest of the day. As you can see by the size of the vole you can get an idea how small these owls are. I was thinking it's rather odd that the largest owl we have, by size, the Great Gray Owl and smallest, the Pygmy Owl both prey on the same size prey.
