I went down to the Murray River in my home town of Mildura to get some shots of the water as we are under flood conditions here.
I took a few shots but wasn't feeling too much of what I was looking at and then the birds showed up and this got my interest sparked.
This Pied Butcherbird was the one that got me completely side tracked and I totally forgot about the flood waters.

He’s a very striking bird and that beak could do some serious damage to unsuspecting bugs..
 
Nice of it to pose from both sides for you. Well captured!

These use that beak to rip into anything that they get. And they are known to find a fork in a tree or shrub and wedge a small bird or whatever they get and then they can just rip into it. Very clever I think.
