Had an Italian GF that if I needed to get a word in I would just grab one of her hands, wait a moment to allow for her system to reboot and then say what I needed to say. I would then let go of her hand so she could reply. It was hilarious the first time I saw one of her friends do it This friend later told me she saw me do it and thought it was a wonderful life hack.
