I typically don't like shooting against a blue sky, since I find it bland and uninteresting.
However, what fun is photography without exceptions to rules?
One particular Short-eared Owl was very aggressive towards to any others that encroached on its hunting patch.
These two ascended and flashed talons at each other repeatedly. It was challenging keeping them both in the frame since we were using the car as a blind, but I lucked out with this frame of both mirroring each other in midair.
Species: Short-eared Owl (Asio flammeus)
Location: California, USA
Equipment: Sony A9 III + FE 200-600mm + 1.4x TC
Settings: 1/2500s, ISO: 640, f/9 @840mm, Handheld
