Hi every one
Going up to Norfolk in a few weeks and you get some clear nights up there. Saying that was up there a few months ago and was hoping to shoot the moon clouds every
night .. Looking at these great photos on this forum question is it best to have a long exposure say seconds rather then fractions of a second to take pictures of the stars

Yes, seconds, a tripod, and shooting with the correct aperture. Have a look at the EXIF data on some of the astro shots on here.
 
A good starting place is to use the "500 rule" which works by dividing 500 by your focal length to give you a shutter speed.
