The Society re-enacts battles of the English Civil War of 1642-1651, which was actually fought throughout the British Isles.
It began when Charles I got ideas above his station, provoking a war against Parliament. As a result Charles was executed in 1649, then his son Charles II was defeated at the Battle of Worcester in 1651, the decisive battle of the war, after which Britain became a republic. Defeated Royalist Scots fleeing North were ambushed at the battle Culcheth, near Manchester, and these photos are from a re-enactment of that battle.
