Hello there to everyone, thank you for letting me in and I hope i can learn from everyone here, I've been into photography most of my adult life but gave it up after becoming disabled and sold my lovely a7slt and about 7 lenses, I've decided to start again and just picked up a bargain a3000 with a Sony 18-55mm which looks like a kit lens, one thing I didn't reckon on was the price of e fit lenses 😳☹️I should have checked the fitting before I bought the camera dohh, I thought it would be okay to just get a converter to the A mount but it would seem the only one that keeps all the features is a genuine Sony one and again the price seems extortionate! So for now I guess the kit lens will have to do.

Lets be honest it really wouldn't have mattered what camera system you went with the new pretty lenses are all going to cost some pennies. At least for you there is no shortage of good 3rd party APS-C lenses out there. A quick look at the used market for APS-C lenses shows at least in the US 3 of the retailers have more than 50 different types of lenses available.

definitely the best part of APSC E-mount, so many lenses to choose from.

Thanks for the warm welcome,
It's not that there is any shortage of nice lenses, but more to do with the price 🥺as I'm no longer working i have a limited budget and looking around the usual places like eBay etc there is a plethora of a mount lenses at very reasonable prices but not so with the e mount? I like to do wildlife and birds with some landscapes mainly so at some point I would like to get a 135mm prime, 50-300mm, something that ends in 5 or 600mm and a good lens around the 35-200mm range with a 2x Tele converter.i already dug out some of my old stuff which I never got round to selling like a reasonable tripod and full filter kit and also a wireless remote control.is there any 3rd party a to E converters that keep auto focus and apature etc or is it only the Sony ones? And if I should manage to get one which one would i need to use the sam and ssm lenses? Would it be the 2 ? Any advice will be a big help, thanks, Keith

Welcome to the forum @taz.

Hi Keith, I am a bit confused about the question regarding the a3000 camera, so it a-mount camera yes? I am not aware of any Sony adaptor that allows use of e-mount lenses on an a-mount bodies. I still have a99ii and a huge collection of a-mount lenses mainly high end primes and a couple of zooms. I use e-mount bodies a1 a7r5 and a9mk1 with adaptors to a-mount lenses lae-a5 ssm and sam and even non motorised a- mount lenses Depending on which e-mount body they are used on. Sony lae-a4 is another option with less features. lae-a1 and 2 are used I believe on apsc lenses to e-mount bodies, and sony also makes the lae-a3 which is similar to the lae-a5 adaptor but with less features. This answer is from memory and if I have mis-understood the question please disregard the reply
The a3000 is an APS-C e-mount in an a-mount body. https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sony-alpha-a3000

Hi Keith,

Please see the following link, this provides full details of compatibility for Sony lens, adapter, and camera combinations.

Hope that helps.
