Uploading .png?

Hi. Have we stopped being able to upload .png files? I store a lot of my shots in png as they don't lose quality when uploading on Facebook, and I am sure I did here, but if I try now I get told I don't have a valid extension?

Hey Kev, I disabled .png uploads a couple of weeks back I'm afraid, so yes they did used to work here. I wanted to disable these from launch but forgot. The issue with png files is the size. Some of them have been up to 15mb and they don't compress as well as jpegs. This not only drastically increases my hosting costs but also takes longer for the images to load in posts, especially on mobile. If the images are too large they also quickly eat up mobile data and it can get costly to view the forum when on the move unless you have wifi or unlimited data. I'm currently looking into other tools to compress images here without losing quality and if I can find something that works well for pngs I will enable them again. Sorry for the trouble!
