Birds Venice Rookery

Finally had some time to visit the Venice Rookery this week. I don't know if it was the cold or not, but several nests were missing chicks that were seen the prior week.

What's the bird in the first pic chris? Probably obvious, but I'm checking anyway.

That is a male Anhinga, they are quite common in Florida. The males get a bit more vibrant whites during mating season. They have to dry their wings since they lack oil glands like other water birds so they are always posing for pictures.

Yes we have them here too and I always get them mixed up with the Anhingas.
