I remember we had a thread about Instagram, though I can't find it, but who has given in to the social media pundits on the benefits of using Vero? https://vero.co/
I'm looking at the platform and its pretty slick. I love the lack of advertisement as well as the higher resolution. Thinking of creating a profile on Vero for proper photos and skipping out on the personal/family posts (I'll leave that on Instagram and Facebook). Anyone on there?

Another vote for Flickr. Flickr will never down res your photos or change them in any way.

OUCH! When did that go up? I was paying $70 (after an increase from $60) and thought that was plenty. I may have to rethink.
Yeah they have been changing it a lot recently.. if you don’t have a Pro account you can only have 1000 photos posted at anytime. I’ve been on Flickr for years but since it was taken over by Smugmug it’s becoming expensive…

Well, mostly. The original photo remains as you uploaded it. However, Flicker generates different sizes of that image for viewing and sharing. So unless someone goes to the trouble of viewing the original size, everything in Flickr is downscaled to fit the screen. You can see this effect when you click on a photo and it gets larger, kind of zooms in.

I used to upload all of my photos at 2000 pixels on the long side, lately I've been doing 2500. If you click the share button, these are the options available:
  • Square (150 × 150)
  • Thumbnail (100 × 67)
  • Square (75 × 75)
  • Small (240 × 160)
  • Small (320 × 213)
  • Small (400 × 266)
  • Medium (500 × 333)
  • Medium (640 × 426)
  • Medium (800 × 533)
  • Large (1024 × 682)
  • Large (1600 × 1066)
  • Large (2048 × 1364)
  • Original (2500 × 1665)
Only the original is the same as I uploaded it, the rest are downscaled.
So why do you bother doing this? What is the benefit?

Why not just Flickr? If all you want to do is post photos and share, why even bother with a social media outlet? I have a FB account only for the purpose of communicating with racing folks, if not for that I'd cancel it.

I'll be your first folllower!
I don't know, maybe its the millennial in me, but I like the idea of continuing the social aspect of discovering other photographers and having commentary on the pictures (theirs and mine). That's why I'm here too, the social aspect, but Sony Alpha Shooters offers the bonus of Sony-specific content (and you fine folks!). For whatever its worth, I see Flicker has the same commentary feature; so maybe Vero is just a passing fad... we'll see.

I am going to organize some of my photos for a Vero account. You'll find me "@FowlersFreeTime" there as well.

For me I get more enjoyment from posting photos on forums like this.. there is more interaction with people..
I post on Facebook and instagram mainly for friends and family to see what I’m up to, Flickr is excellent but unfortunately they are beginning to squeeze people out or at least me because it’s becoming to expensive, but you don’t get the personal touch like on forums..
