"Excuse me you are in my way." No you are in my way."

Ruby Throat Humming bird meets face to face with a yellow jacket.
It was a very cloudy and rainy day and could not get the shutter speed where I really would of liked it. ISO of 6400 was already pushing my comfort zone. Did the best I could with it.

A 3 shot sequence of a really beautifully marked young Gannet at Bempton earlier this month. These are cropped in from shots taken in crop mode on the RIV, and shows that I have no issues with long range focus softness.

Extraordinary shot

Some recent shots of Avocets at Oare Marshes. Such elegant birds. These were taken at 600mm and Full Frame and then heavily cropped as the birds were at least 40 yards away. Beautiful light on the day.

I like the lens for :
1) it's small and light (relatively)
2) Internal zooming
3) affordable
4) has good range (coupled with TC)
5) sharp enough (not compared to the primes)
6) short zooming turn

Things I like less:
1) huge hood ( I replace mine with a smaller screw on metal hood)
2) no Arca on tripod mount ( a huge miss, I replace mine with iShoot mount)
3) Bokeh a bit messy
4) Slow for sunset and low light shoots
5) Single motor (could be faster with 2)

I agree with the above. In my opinion, the internal zooming is a major benefit, especially if you are using a tripod. I got the Kirk mount which I think is better than the RSS.
Timothy -just curious, do you think the 100-400 is better at the things you "like less"? I'm still new to all of this so I have a lot to learn

Here are some birds I shot in the backyard. Still learning. Any feedback welcome. These are cropped from the originals. Sony a7RIV and 200-600

White Stork at close range on the RIV, so a full resolution image, post processed in PS CC and a tad of sharpening in Topaz, no noise at this ISO.

Never will i achieve that, but it's nice to dream. Great shot.

I'm loving this lens. I need to get out and get some more practice with it though. I think I have used it more for shooting the moon :ROFLMAO:

Isn't that pretty satisfying though? Both photos with a bit of cropping, and small amount of sharpening...
