Too irregular for broom bristles...

Fibers on some type of sponge?
 
Looks organic, like roots, or leaf veins. I'm with Chris, maybe a sponge.
If it was a plant, I'd think roots from onions or something similar.

If it was a plant, I'd think roots from onions or something similar.
It is actually what I assume is the buildup of some water and dust on one of my cheap reading glasses. I thought it looked interesting so had to go find another pair so I could photograph this one.

Wow I would never have guessed that!
 
If those glasses have any coating on them, like a blue light filter, the coating may have delaminated enough to admit air & moisture allowing mold or something to grow in between the layers? A very unusual sight!
