New from Texas

Hi, my name is David. I'm retired. My wife and I live in the Hill Country north west of Austin, Texas. Our back yard is adjacent to part of the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Reserve. The reserve was created to protect the nesting area of the Golden-cheeked Warbler and the Black-capped Vireo. Neither of which I've been able to photograph yet.

I mostly shoot wildlife and birds, but want to get into landscapes.

I've been a Nikon shooter for many years and have 4 Nikon Z camera bodies. I have dabbled in Sony cameras. First with the NEX line and then with an A6400. I also had the Sony 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS lens with the Megadap adaptor so I could use it on my Nikon Z-mount cameras. I ended up selling the A6400 and the 200-600 lens and bought the Nikon 180-600mm lens.

I recently bought the Sony FE 400-800mm f/6.3-8 G OSS lens. Also for use on my Nikon Z-mount cameras with the Megadap.

I just recently bought a used Sony A7R IVa and should receive it today. My main interest in this camera is for landscapes, but I'm going to try using it for wildlife also. I'm also very intrigued with the A7R VI and almost bought it. But before I spend that much I want to make sure I like the Sony full frame body feel and menu layout. Those are two things I just couldn't get used to with the A6400.

First welcome.
So the A7Riv has both the older body style and older menu system so that isn't going to be a good representative of the newer models. I owned the A7Riv and can tell you that the newer bodies feel much nicer.
Are either of Sony's menus great, no but if you spend a bit of time you can basically avoid using it. What I mean is that between the large number of custom buttons and FN menu you can get nearly everything you will use most often. For the stuff you don't need often and might use just add those to the custom menu tab.

FedEx delivered the A7R IVa today and I've been playing around with the menus and customizing the various buttons and the Fn menu. I avoid using the Nikon menus by using the various custom buttons and their "i" menu. Like you said, I'm finding I can pretty much do the same thing with this camera.

I took a few images in my front yard, which overlooks a good portion of our subdivision and I'm blown away with the resolution. In Photoshop I just keep zooming in and zooming in and zooming in, then I'm finally at 100%.

I actually like the feel of the body.
