We have ben keeping an eye on this pair of Wood Pigeons raising one chick between them. They change shifts every 12 hours. The chick is now possibly as large as it parents but is not independent yet. It still relies on milk from both parents. It's beak is not hard enough yet to be able to eat seeds.
I have just been and had a look at it. It has left the nest and is perching on a branch, which gives it much more shelter from the rain. Pigeons have feathers that allow water to roll off them, so their skin remains dry and warm. That is why the pigeon is sitting with its back pointing into the weather, and the front of it is sheltered by taller hedging. It's very clever, and it's just a few weeks old.
