Impressive nighttime results, especially considering it is "only" an f4 lens and not the f2.8 version.

I never expected night time pictures with f4 and 1/400th exposure to look so good

Some of those are at ISO 12500. There's always a trade off, remember your exposure triangle.

Many were made @ 70mm, so he could've dropped the shutter speed down to 1/80 not even considering IS and still been ok. 12500 becomes 6400, SS is 1/200. Drop it to 3200, SS is 1/100. ISO 2000ish and 1/80 with no problem. The only caveat would be motion.

What surprises me is how clean the images are with so little noise at the ISO settings he used. Very impressive.

Gary excels at this. I've never seen anyone get so much out of his crops and noise reduction. I am consistently in awe.

You guys have to forgive me a bit, I'm used to my little APSC sensor which does NOT do so well in low light... well, not without a tripod and some longer exposure times anyway

Great shots. As others said, it's surprising to see these results at F4, which is very encouraging as I'm planning to get the just announced 20-70mm F4 as my walking-around lens. The results at high ISO numbers are impressive compared to the graininess of my current A77. Thanks for sharing.
