I enjoy using different colours of camera straps, possibly because all the bodies are the same colour, and all the lenses come in black or white.

When I started buying Peak Design straps they came, I think, in just:
  • black
  • “ash” - a kind of silver grey.
I haven’t paid close attention, but after those two they introduced:
  • Sage - green
  • Midnight - blue
  • Coyote - brown
And now they have brought out four new colours:
  • Ocean - looks like a cyan
  • Eclipse - a dark red
  • Kelp - another green
  • Ibis - looks like a magenta or orangey colour
There’s another variant which I haven’t looked at which uses different fittings.
EDIT: it's called "Carryology" - orange fittings

Do we need all these?

I actually just bought a dark blue lite one as I damaged my first strap over the weekend, the color difference will be a nice quick visual to know which strap to use with the big lenses. Plus I needed a 2nd plate. I found I really like the straps to be anchored to the left body anchor and the base plate rather than both body anchors.

I had an ash colored slide lite and gave it to my cousin, then I got myself the Sage colored strap and cuff. I like the color, its green, but not obnoxiously bright.

I don't love the coyote color, but when it came out it was the only one to come with black anchor buttons (or whatever they call them). If they sell those separately now, I might buy a set.

As for bags, I just go with basic black.

I can't wait to see the camo brigade with their new Cyan straps...

They do sell the all-black anchors separately, and they are quite cheap, too. Plus they include the really nice oval split rings in the package.

One thing I noticed later about the new colours is that the anchors are colour matched to the straps! That's new.

Not a fan of black bags, except for rollers - a black shoulder bag kinda screams "camera!". I mostly use the Retrospective bags, and they come in a variety of colours. I have different colours set up with different lenses.

I have had an in-person look at three of the new colours.

Ocean is a grey blue or a cyan, vs Midnight, which is an emphatic navy blue. On a Midnight strap the plastic fittings are black, and the metal fittings are black. On an Ocean strap the metal fittings match the strap colour; I’m not sure if the plastic fittings are dark grey or black.

Eclipse is a dark red that I have seen unflatteringly described as the colour of dried blood - I’d just call it a dark red. The plastic fittings match the strap. The metal fittings that takes the anchors are colour matched to the strap; the metal latch to the slider is a bit brighter.

Kelp is a dull brown green, vs Sage is very much a green - Sage looks more green placed next to Kelp :) The metal fitting on a Sage strap that takes the anchor is black, but the slider latch is silver. On a Kelp strap the anchor socket matches the strap colour, but the slider latch is bronze.

The centre of each anchor button is still black, as is the cord. But the outer ring of the anchor is a different colour for each of the new straps: Ocean get a cream ring; Eclipse gets a kind of orange; Kelp gets a yellow. I think I will stick with the all-black anchors.

I like Ocean; I don’t mind Eclipse; I am dubious about Kelp. Surprised to have a different reaction to each.

I have been looking for a new Peak Design strap to replace an older one and stumbled across a Peak strap with a Sony logo on ebay. It must have been some type of special edition made for a show or conference. There were several listed at $700 each. I would be willing to pay a small premium for this unique strap, and laugh at me if you will, but I have a thing for Sony Alpha logo items, but $700 is absolutely ridiculous!

Strap + 10-20 premium = (y)
Strap + 50-60 premium = 😆
Strap + 100+ premium = 🚑

They were offered by Sony Australia to people who pre-ordered an A1 II directly from them. I bought my A1 II from my favorite dealer, and saved more than the cost of a strap. I’d have liked the strap, but not at the premium it would have cost me!

I don’t know if they were also offered by Sony in other countries, but it’s possible.
