I got my lens back a few days ago and managed to get out with it for a short shoot. I shot handheld and used the 1.4 TC. I found it very hard to do bird in flight as the birds were hard to find in the viewfinder with such a narrow depth of field. I had forgotten how good this lens is. I thought the images with the 300 2.8 with the 2x TC were sharp, and they are, but there is a noticeable difference in sharpness with the naked 600. If it was easier to travel with I would never give it up, but since I do travel I will sell it and try the new 600 6.3 for destination photography.

I know what you're saying, but I will hang onto mine. I leave it at home when flying, but otherwise I will still suffer under its weight. If I'm flying, the 200-600 comes with me.

Concur. The 600 f/6.3 is like looking thru a straw. Worse if using a teleconverter.

The 600/6.3 is amazingly light and handles beautifully. An absolute joy to use.
