Birds A day out at RSPB Ham Wall

We had a day out at RSPB Ham Wall ( near Glastonbury) on Saturday and was lucky enough to get a few interesting shots.
A courting couple of Great Crested Grebes, a fly from a Bittern (always much easier to hear than see!) and a female coot that had had enough of her amorous partner.

Nice. A reserve I always wanted to visit. Unlikely now as I've moved 200 miles further away

I have got a shot of the Grebe but it is a long distance shot and hardly know what it is if you were not into birds.
But this Coots can be quite nasty to any bird that comes too close to their particular area while in breeding mode.
Great shots of them all.

Really want to visit Ham wall ,i have visited most uk destinations but this one has eluded me ,great bittern also.

It’s a good reserve, especially if you’re interested in Marsh Harriers. We saw lots of action from the Avalon Hide. There was also a Glossy Ibis and a couple of Garganey from the first viewing point but a bit too distant to get a decent photo.
In addition, if you go over the road in the opposite direction, you have Shapwick Heath with Noah’s Lake where they occasionally get ospreys passing through.

Lovely shots David. I should really make the effort to get a little further south than Slimbridge! Although with fuel prices right now I probably won't be straying too far from home.

Nice set David , always great to see the GCG weed dance and the bittern was a real bonus
