I never really looked to use my camera much for video, though did take some a few times. Often as the camera was handheld the videos were not that great. Going forward I think to use tripod/gimbal, and to use my camera more for video in between still images.

So I now have a7RV. In photo mode I can hit the record button and it does make video. All is good, the video looks OK. But here is where my problem starts. I was looking around on Youtube & Google for direction. I watched one Youtube video that was detailed and thorough on each settings to select. When I put the camera into video mode and capture video, that video looks just awful. Maybe I missed something so I wasted my time and re-watched to no avail. The video settings create a washed out poorly lit delete right away video.

I will be shooting wildlife & nature scenes, and am hoping to find some guidance, tutorial or something on the settings I need to select to make a high quality video. I dont need 8k, dont care about 8k, and 4k is more than enough for me. The YT video I watched was specific to the A7RV, but if there are other that would be applicable to my camera that would certainly work.

You have probably recorded the video in S-Log. Which is what you want to do if you want to get the best quality but it needs to be colour graded properly. What software are you going to use to process your videos? If you don't want to shoot in Log you can use S-Cinetone, which a lot of people recommend but I have found that I generally get better results using Log.

Here are a few links:

That should keep you going for a while...

Thanks for the reply, these videos were lot better. The 2nd one even had "A7RV & Video" in the title yet Youtube never showed that one in a search. I hate Youtube sometimes. I also had not realized that when being told to use PP8 would require post processing. The 3 of these combined got me a little closer to where I need to be. I still have months to learn, but in May I will want to be shooting wildlife in Africa, until then my cats will have to substitute (or maybe I could find some cute giraffe costume for that cat)

For software, I do own Corel VideoStudio 2022, but was thinking maybe get license for Filmora. I like Filmora's app better, just don't like their marketing and deception. Not there to look at something like Adobe Premier or anything more professional. I doubt I would ever even post to Youtube, more just travel videos that gets created and shared personally.

I edit my videos in Final Cut Pro but it might be worth looking at Davinci Resolve. By the way, practice makes perfect with this sort of stuff. When you get settings you like, make sure to save them in one of the memories.
