Nice shot. I see you shot f9. I'm starting to tend more from 5.6 or 7 toward 9 or 11, especially with flash or sun. I like the hair and ears in focus also. But if her eyes are particularly striking, penetrating --- then I might intentionally soften hair. This a good shot, good DoF, very natural, good job.

I upgraded my key light to 600w to be able to shoot f9 at iso100. f9 was also a goal to be able to have some ambient light to acquire focus more easily (7M3 at the time). Now with A1 having 1/400s x-sync the ambient light is no longer an issue and, because of DLA concerns that kick in at f6.7 with 50mpx sensor, I find myself reducing to f7.1 Wich puts me at 1/4 power on key and allows faster recycle if needed. Children also appreciate not being blasted with 1/1 key-light bursts.

I am also happy with the DOF f7.1 gives me

I hear ya. Full bore key-lites with repeated bursts over a period of time may run risk of giving your subject a free sun tan. :giggle: And I agree with you, often the good lighting makes all the difference.

And good luck w that a1; you lucky devil. Once you get it broken-in this summer, maybe you could fill us in with your opinion and tips. Your posted photos so far suggest you're pretty good at this game. So I trust the a1 will be your good fortune and up your game a bit.

Also, good idea using a monitor for subject to watch.

....

Thanks, One thing I can tell you right away (after 2 weeks of A1 use): Sigma glass (and older Sony glass too) cannot cope with A1 AF, not even at 20fps.
If your long term plan is to upgrade to A1 someday then it's dual XD drive GM glass (last 2y) or that A1 AF will be going to waste.
