At one time I had three in the air at the same time. I only managed to get two in frame at one time. I thought I had spent an hour or so with these birds but going through the metadata it looks like it was just over 15 minutes. Seemed longer to me. Taken on Galveston Island, Texas
The common nighthawk is a medium-sized crepuscular or nocturnal bird of the Americas within the nightjar family, whose presence and identity are best revealed by its vocalization. Typically dark, displaying cryptic colouration and intricate patterns, this bird is difficult to spot with the naked eye during the day. Wikipedia

They come out at dusk here in Tucson, but they are so fast (and in such low light) that I don't even try to photograph them. Nicely done.
 
Great pics. Not a bird I've heard of.
