Recently sailed on the Disney Treasure, basically the twin sister to the Disney Wish, which I cruised on last year. Here are a few shots of the cruise ship in 3 of the ports we visited.

Then tried basically same shot with the CPL I had on me just to see if it made a difference. Kept the CPL on for the next few shots.

Nice!

If you haven't already, add an Alaska cruise to your bucket list. I've done it twice and am ready to go back again (this time with MUCH better camera gear).

Certainly on my bucket list! For the next couple years it will probably still be Disney cruises in the Caribbean. So I expect Alaska will have to wait.

Looks like a great cruise and a mega ship! Lovely shots with that Sony E 16-55 F2.8 as well. I've been tempted by it a few times.

Thanks Tim!
Regarding the lens, I would say its well worth the money if you get it on sale or pre-owned. Don't get me wrong, its the sharpest of the three f2.8 zoom lenses, but...
  • The Sigma 18-50 is cheaper, more compact, has a closer minimum focusing distance, and almost as sharp as the Sony; downside is the wide end,
  • The Tamron 17-70 is cheaper, gives you more zoom range and vibration compensation; downsides are the size/weight and slight softness at 70mm,
  • The Sony 16-55 is the sharpest of the three but also most expensive, almost as large as the Tamron, doesn't have OSS, and if you ever look at the uncorrected raws, there's some distortion and vignetting on the 16mm side of things (thankfully taken care of by in camera settings).
Despite my musings, I found the 16-55 range to be good enough for the vacation I had. The only time I wish I had brought my wider lens was when I was at the beach, because you can't stitch a panorama with waves moving on the beach (a fact I forgot at the time and was reminded of in editing lol). I didn't yearn for a longer lens because this was a family trip and wildlife excursions were not part of the plan.
