I'll be mixing long 600TC and 400TC lenses on Z8 with newly acquired Sony 300GM on an A1M2 for birding. Hoping to cover all angles (no pun intended ;-)) during the upcoming Latin America trip. Got lots of questions, so quite thankful there was this community to join.

Welcome Alex, congrats on the mental faculties to remember where all the buttons are on two different systems.

I have two A1s (originals) I have to have everything the same on both, otherwise I meltdown dramatically.

Get some shots posted and ask away.

I still have the Canon system ghost in my brain--ultimately felt Canon was more similar to Sony and left it behind for what felt like a better ecosystem. Nikon is a vastly different world.

I have a 2.0TC arriving today for my 300GM and we shall see about perched birds but I must say: BIF so far with 300GM on its own: thumbs up; perched between the branches or even a lake bird on its own: Sony was hunting everywhere, so Nikon v Sony 1:1 so far. Maybe I am doing something wrong but it is worrying as I am going to the rainforest soon and definitely hoping I'd grab a nearby skulker or flitter with no issues. I'll be with two systems though but my plan was Sony for the near field and Nikon for the canopy. Hmm...

Hello & welcome, Alex!

I am also a multi-platform photon-gatherer (Nikon, Sony, Canon, etc...). All those buttons in different places help to keep my middle-aged synapses from getting too rusty!
