I don't know if anyone here uses the Nik Collection. I reckon Silver Efex is the best way to convert images into black and white and it has probably got the most updates of any of the plugins. Also, probably the biggest thing, if you use any of the modules with Photoshop, which I generally do, you can import any of the masks in the image into the Nik plugin. That is going to make all the plugins much more usable. You can also import any masks made in a Nik plugin back into Photoshop.

I use the Nik Collection primarily for the wonderful Silver Efex. I don't use Photoshop so I don't need the Nik Collection as a plug-in for that program but I do use DXO PhotoLab and of course it works beautifully there.

I have upgraded to Nik Collection 8 after seeing a few reviews. Silver Efex has been much simplified by only filters you are actually using being added to the right panel which I really like. Also being able to use selections imported from Photoshop, as mentioned above, is a massive bonus. You can intersect etc. selections from photoshop with ones you have made in Silver Efex (and the other plugins) and export them all back to Photoshop if you wish. I need to have a bit more of a look at Color Efex now. I used to use it quite a bit and there are some useful tools in there. The new selections will make it much more useable.

Thank you for the further info! I still haven't gotten around to upgrading my NIK Collection..... It seems as though every time I'm jumping into it to process an image I'm in sort of a hurry and don't want to take the time to fiddle with upgrading and the time it might take. One of these days I'll finally do this, though.
