Aren't they great birds? I've only seen a couple of wild ones and none presented a good photo opportunity. Great shots.

They're fairly common here, especially this time of year. We're only a short hop over the water into N Africa. I'm finding the trick is seeing them in time, despite the colour scheme, they're well camouflaged on the ground. They do a good impression of a rock. This one was hiding from a kestrel when I saw him.

The markings are striking. Reminds me a little of the Northern Flicker.
