Heavy overcast before official sunrise (although there was no actual sunrise when the time came). I'm pleasantly surprised at how well this came out, considering it was handheld at 1/50 sec, 600 mm, f/6.3

This was just before sunrise under heavily overcast skies. This light had almost no colour but just enough to keep it. I liked the opportunity for this composition with the eroded pylon and ripples in the water behind the Great Blue Heron.

This Great Blue Heron has been very tolerant of me over the past few days. I move in slowly, and it lets me get quite close. Usually, they squawk and fly off, bellowing protests at having been disturbed.

A few minutes later, it wandered up on land very near me. I had no trouble filling the frame for this shot.
