For someone recovering from a ruptured quad tendon, it was too far.

Google states that the castle at Montfragüe has an altitude of 600m, we started at the bottom of the valley, but I don't know how far above sea level that is.

At busy times of the year, they operate a bus service most of the way, this isn't currently running.
