People Krampus - The ancient Rauhnacht rites

In these dark, long and cold nights you can find people gathering and still celebrating the old rites.
"Finstere Gesellen" as they call them, creatures from the dark, always accompany Saint Nikolaus.
Lit by fireworks, fitted with traditional masks that are carved out of wood - some of them several generations old - these creatures come to life.
In wild and fierce parades they wreak havoc amongst the spectators and if you get beaten by their rods its supposed to bring luck in the upcoming year.
