Max File Size Question

With the growing popularity of the a7Rvi and resulting 67mp files, is it possible to raise the maximum file size accepted by the forum software? When I try uploading an uncropped or lightly cropped image the photos are flagged as too large. I resized some in PhotoLab to 9000x6000 so they would work. I forgot to change the settings the next time I exported files and wondered how my RX10V photos were coming out as 56mp files.

What format were you using for 9000x6000? That's beyond the 8192 pixel limit of standard JPEG.

I believe the current limit is 2048 pixels on each side. That keeps the file sizes down so the site loads smoothly (and so Tm doesn't have to buy lots more storage!)

Do you think people are going to want to zoom into 100% on every image? If there's a part of your image that has amazing detail you can upload a crop of that area.

1920*1280 is my working size. It's the size I use to distribute pics to their subjects, and nobody complains.

It is small enough for forums, big enough for some zooming in.

Unless I have the need to reduce something much further, to something that will display properly, inline, on some forum etc, I just don't do assorted sizes. Not worth it.

I'm even slowly instituting deletion of all "full-size" jpegs on my own system, for the two or three years since I took up regular raw processing. If I need one, it can be recreated. For just-browsing, 1920 is fine. I'm not throwing away the raw files... yet. I'm hoping that someone will adopt my collection of concert pics, as historical record. Honestly, even for that, 1920 is probably more than enough. I don't think the future needs >40MB raws of my pics. And, obviously, I don't even have an 'R' camera.

I am not suggesting that we all go back to 12MP cameras "because it's enough." That's a different subject, and hey, I'm not.

We have come to the end of the (current) storage is cheap era. I'm glad that I bought a 4TB hdd some time back, that I don't yet need to expand onto.
