Moon and Jupiter

It was a pretty clear night so I took some quick shots of the full moon and Jupiter.

First the moon by itself.

There was a partial eclipse of the moon from 1935 to 2052 GMT, but that would have been during your daytime. It rained here.

Great shots Rick, where are you shooting from in the USA, you must have good skies at night? Impressive that you also caught the four Galilean moons, i.e., Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto. Are the Jupiter shots also hand held?

I am in Greenville, South Carolina. There are some spots where the skies are ok but it if I drive an hour or so up to the Blue Ridge Parkway there are some nice dark areas. I need to do that again now that I have the Sony. I just got a Samyang 135mm f/1.8 that has a dedicated Astrophotography mode that I want to check out.

The full moon shot and the shot of Jupiter and the moons were on a tripod. The moon and Jupiter shot was handheld.

I took another look at some of the shots this morning. It appears I got three of the moons of Saturn. Let's see if they show up here.

That's impressive that you got three of the Galilean moons at 1200mm handheld! The colour of Jupiter doen't look quite right. Is that a post processing issue? I assume these are just single shots, not stacked images?

I didn't do anything to the colour in post. It was a little hazy in the sky last night. The Air Quality Index was in the high 70s. Here's the site I use watch the local air quality. (I set the location to London for you).

Thanks ST, that's a useful website. Colour seems to be a little too blue. Could be atmospherics.
