Great Shots!! How many fps were you shooting on the bird in flight??

30fps cRAW for the perched -> BIF transitions. 1st time ever I shot 30fps.

The drive mode dial is usually at L-5fps or even single shot, then when I get a perched bird that I sense is about to take flight I press the "turbo" C button (I choose AE-L button for this) that overrides frame rate to 30fps and then I shoot away when the bird leaves the branch.

The downside is that I have to use cRAW for all the pics, even when shooting single frames, as I have not found a way yet to have uRAW for L/M/H and cRAW just for Hi+. If I set RAW type to (u)ncompressed, then Hi+ becomes same as Hi (20fps). I am very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the lossy cRAWs, as well as with the performance of the 200-600 with good light !!

For the record I understand BIF to mean Birds In Flight … you know, the thing I’ve been trying to take pictures of for weeks. I feel like I’m back in elementary school.

cRAW = compressed lossy RAW (RAW file type setting necessary to attain Hi+ 30fps burst rate with A1)

perched -> BIF: bird is perched on a branch and I start shooting a 30fps burst as soon as it takes off.

Nothing wrong with that, most of my pictures in the last year are local.

A great start there - the duckling are especially good.
There's certainly a lot of abbreviations in the photography forums - perhaps we need a glossary of abbreviations somewhere. My favourites are OOF (out of focus) and SOOC (straight out of camera).
Some of them have me puzzled for quite a while - a bit like a cryptic crossword clue...
