Hi,

Just getting to grips with my new Sony A7CII which I am really enjoying using. A steep learning curve after 11 years of my Nikon D810!

What do people think about the Sony editing software? I used to use Nikon Studio to review and cull pics before importing the select few into Lightroom.

I could never get on with it, but I am so used to Photoshop it's hard to get into anything else. I think it's ok, but it depends on what sort of processing you want to do.

I've tried it a little, but only for some quick file conversion tasks (compressed raw to tiff or jpeg). Generally I find it quicker/easier to just use my preferred editor which is usually ON1, sometimes Affinity. For viewing and culling the Sony software may work okay, but I've never been sold on it.

It is slow, and it has some odd ways of doing some things. Only ever use it for the very rare times I use the pixel-shift feature or when I am confused about where the camera focused since it has a tool to show you that. I used CaptureOne.

If you want a program for quick review of RAW files I can recommend Fast Raw Viewer. It works great even on my super cheap travel laptop.

I gave the Sony software a good try but decided to stay with Lightroom. The only thing I use the Sony platform for is if I want to quickly send a few jpgs to my iPhone to share on location. I have to say though that I love my a7iv, good luck with the new camera.

Same here. Most camera manufacture's software is pretty ordinary I have found. I use a few different software packages for different things or as a combination. In no particular order: DxO PhotoLab; Adobe Bridge, Camera Raw and Photoshop; Nik Collection; Luminar Neo.
