I know this 300mm is nominally a G, but back then Sony wasn't making G Master lenses. I suspect it's pretty darn close to the current GM on specs like sharpness, with the key difference being that this lens weighed 2.31kg, while the newer GM weighs 1.47kg. Worth mentioning that even 2.31kg was less than the 2.5 and 2.9 of other brands at the time.

'G Master' is a way to squeeze more money out of people who already own 'G' lenses. 'G Master II' is the next squeeze. Some people just never understand when good is good.
