Birds Patient Kingfisher

I've been trying to get a close shot of this species for awhile, and found this fellow happy to preen and let me approach from a slightly sheltered vantage point. A9II, 200-600. This was my "quick and dirty" edit, will go back for a final clean up. Especially of the fishing line that was wrapped around the area. Just out of reach over water or I would have cleaned up the physical line as well as the image.

You can try a couple of things to help get closer to Kingfishers
1. Know their territory range, if it is a river/creek find a spot in the middle and wait being as hidden as possible
2. Make a new perch for them over the water in their territory range (preferably when they are not near), find a hide and wait. They find new perches to be nearly irresistible to tryout

Thanks! all great advice. I chanced into that scenario with this one, boulder to obscure me, branch over the water, warm morning sun to preen under on an otherwise chilly morning. Managed to slip away without disrupting the bird too, bonus.
