Hey guys, I'm kinda stuck with this thought... I have 3 lenses for my Sony A74. The first one is the 200-600 + TC1.4 for my nature photography.
My second is Sigma art 35mm 1.4 and my Third lens is the 85mm Zeiss Batis 1.8.
I honestly love them but I barely use them, since my prime photography love is plane spotting and leaning nature photography (manly birds)
and I use my 200-600 for this. My last Trip I used the Batis and thought it is a great lens, Its clumsy and heavy.

I have this wild thought of selling both the Zeiss and the Sigma and getting a little, compact lens for street photography since having 4 lenses is too much for a non-professional like myself.

So, my question to you guys, is what lens should I buy? I need it to be small and compact, Not heavy or bulky yet good that can replace both Zeiss and Sigma.
I understand these two are great lenses so it will be difficult to replace but I would really love to hear your thoughts on that matter.

Thank you for reading,
Maxim.

I do a lot of street photography and I wouldn't use any of the lenses you talk about. Maybe the 85 would work for many things. I bought my A7 with a 24 - 105 lens and that is my go-to for street photography. I know people have bad things to say about zoom lenses, but you really want to have variety and speed when you are shooting on the street. I have a bunch of other lenses but the 24-105 gets the most use. The last thing I want to do is change lenses while I am walking down the street looking for that special moment.

For street I use the 40mm f2.5 G lens. I prefer to keep it discreet.

But the 20-70 f4 G or 24-50 f2.5 may cover all your needs and they are not too heavy.

My sigma is really heavy. I was thinking about getting the Zeiss Sonnat T 35mm 2.8.
I had the 16, 30, and 56. I didn't find the 30 heavy at all. Don't sell the 85 or your telephoto, you'll regret it in my opinion.. Use the Sigma 30 until you can get the Zeiss, but what is the actual weight difference?

You're referencing the Sigma APSC lenses (16/30/56), which are indeed small and light, but the thread author mentioned the Sigma Art 35mm f1.4 which is a full frame lens and 640g (as opposed to the APSC 30mm f1.4 which is 265g).

Ah ok

@Maxim 2401 How about a lightweight 50mm prime? Viltrox AF 50mm F2.0 Air Full-Frame Lens for Sony E-Mount

Only 205g! That is as light as an APSC lenses, but is for full-frame. Very small and minimalist, so the price is low.

Clearly the only possible choice for street shooting is the Sigma 300-600mm:

  • It’s discreetly coloured white so it blends in with the button-down white shirt you’ll be wearing
  • It inhibits theft in the street - a drug-raddled addict won’t be able to lift it, let along run away
  • You aren’t limited to shooting just what’s in front of you - you can shoot the excitement taking place two blocks down the street
  • You’ll look so cool with the authority conveyed by such a prestigious lens
How could you choose anything else?
